What this pilot can establish.
The starting point was Chris the Producer’s video “I became a data broker to EXPOSE what BIG TECH knows about you.” Its transcript describes access requests to major providers, an LLC-backed website, a five-cent targeted record purchase and additional broker lookups. The spoken transcript does not name the purchase dashboards. Visual inspection of the later trial form appears to match L2 ConsumerMapping; the five-cent checkout supplier remains unconfirmed. The purchase price is the creator’s account, not a verified quote for this project.
Access is fragmented
California residents can request covered personal information from businesses subject to the CCPA. Access requests are generally free, but verification and statutory exceptions apply. There is no universal provider identified by this research that guarantees every record held across all brokers. California Attorney General guidance.
Existing routes
Epsilon offers consumer marketing access reports. LexisNexis offers consumer disclosures. Equifax, Experian and TransUnion maintain privacy request routes separate from ordinary credit reports. A returned report may be partial, no-match or subject to exclusions.
Broker registration is a separate question
California describes a data broker by reference to qualifying businesses that knowingly collect and sell personal information about consumers with whom they lack a direct relationship. The 2026 annual registration fee is $6,000 plus electronic payment processing. Applicability depends on actual operations and the law’s definitions; merely buying your own record does not itself settle that question. CalPrivacy guidance.
The DROP platform handles deletion requests. It is not a data download service. This pilot prioritizes access, so it does not initiate deletion.
Supplier access
L2 ConsumerMapping offers a trial/contact route, subject to approval. DataZapp lists a $125 pay-as-you-go minimum despite low per-record prices. Postalytics documents similar list-selection controls, but its published minimum counts conflict and its appearance is not sufficient to identify it as the video’s supplier. LeadsPlease’s API advertises single-record pricing without a per-order minimum, but its published live-access credit packs start at $100. No supplier account or purchase has been completed.
Unfinished external steps
Supplier approval, identity verification and the return of reports are controlled by each provider. Prepared requests and portal visits are not completed submissions. No data purchase or brokerage registration should be inferred from this site being live.
